Chairman PTV Attaul Haq Qasmi resigns; Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera named MD

ISLAMABAD – Attaul Haq Qasmi (pictured), Chairman Pakistan Television (PTV) has submitted his resignation citing “the prevailing circumstances in Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage.”

In his resignation tendered on Wednesday, Qasmi said it had become increasingly difficult for him to continue to work for the restoration of PTV’s past glory.

He has served a one-month notice mandatory for anyone quitting the organization.

Qasmi, a veteran columnist, and poet was appointed the chairman of the state-run television in December 2015.

Before his appointment, he had a long association with PTV as a playwright for well over three decades.

He was also an ambassador to Norway and Thailand. A recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz and President's Award for Pride of Performance, Qasmi has been in journalism for over 50 years.

Before joining PTV as chairman, he headed the Lahore Arts Council.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information this week gave Information Secretary Sardar Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera an additional charge of Managing Director PTV.

Some circles think Qasmi’s resignation may have been prompted because of Sukhera’s appointment.
