The News questions excessive media coverage of Imran wedding

ISLAMABAD: The News Saturday questioned the excessive media coverage given to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan and ex-BBC staffer Reham Khan's wedding labeling it as hype and sensationalism.
Imran and Reham tied the knot Tuesday in a simple ceremony. The national and international media gave extensive coverage to the event.
In an editorial, The News said the media ignored numerous other issues of great importance and chose to focus only on Khans’ marriage.
“The degree of hype created seems completely out of place at a time when many other events of genuine national significance are taking place in the country,” it said.
It also questioned the timing of the event as hundreds of families were still mourning their near and dear ones killed in a terrorist attack on the Peshawar Army Public School.
The editorial termed the wedding frenzy as equivalent to royal and Bollywood weddings.
“The scenes that have been played out over the last few days on our screens and in the press bring back images from royal weddings in England or Bollywood weddings from Mumbai,” the paper said.
