The News City Editor Saleem Usmani passes away

ISLAMABAD – Saleem Usmani, City Editor at The News in Rawalpindi died of a heart attack Sunday afternoon. He was 52.

His friends and relatives said he was alone at home and could not be taken to hospital.

Usmani, was promoted as the City Editor only days ago and had thanked his friends in a Facebook post on February 15. “Thank you all friends for greeting me on my formal promotion as City Editor The News.”

He was associated with the paper’s city desk for many years as a sub and senior sub. He replaced Aamir Qureshi as the City Editor.

Usmani began his career with The Muslim where he initially worked on the proofreading desk in the early 80s and then as a sub-editor. He then moved to Pakistan Observer and later on in his career joined The News.

His friends remember him as a hard-working individual whose contribution to the newspaper was immense.

He was buried at the Media Town Graveyard Sunday evening.
