ISLAMABAD: Samaa TV was taken off air in Karachi Wednesday for unknown reasons. The channel reported its transmission was suspended illegally by unidentified persons.
G M Jamali, President of Karachi Union of Journalist, condemned the forced shut down. "The government should take notice of this and initiate measures to ensure smooth transmission of Samaa," he said.
Jamali also urged Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to take action on this illegal blockage.
Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inaam Memon also condemned the blockage and assured its management of complete cooperation. "Some elements are trying to hold the channels hostage at gunpoint. Samaa doesn't need to bow down to pressure," he said.
