ISLAMABAD - Attaul Haq Qasmi, Chairman Pakistan Television (PTV) has appointed himself as the managing director also of the state-run organization through a resolution passed at a meeting he convened of the board of directors.

The Express Tribune reported Friday that Senator Farhatullah Babar gave this information to the Senate Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage.

The paper said the news came as a surprise for other members of the panel.

The position of managing director had been vacant since February 28, 2016, when Mohammad Malick retired from service and different officials of the Information Ministry were given the acting charge.

Qasmi, an author, columnist, and loyalist of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz was named PTV chairman in December 2015.
