PEMRA Council of Complaints recommends Rs1 million fine on Channel 24

ISLAMABAD – The Council of Complaints of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has recommended a fine of Rs1 million on Channel 24 for airing “false and malicious statements” about the wife of citizen Anwar Aziz.

A PEMRA release said Thursday the statements were aired in the program Khara Sach. The 67th meeting of the Council was held in Lahore Wednesday.

Channel 24 is already in trouble for airing a purported audio of screaming passengers on board flight PK 661 that crashed near Abbottabad on December 7. The news organization’s management has been asked to furnish proof the audio clip was from the passenger cabin of the ill-fated plane.
