Dunya News agrees to reinstate sacked staffers

LAHORE – Dunya News has announced reinstating staff members it sacked in recent days ahead of a protest threatened by Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ).

Dunya officials led by the group’s Managing Director Naveed Kashif met the journalist leaders at the Lahore Press Club where the announcement was made.

Muhammad Shahbaz Mian, President of the press club, welcomed the decision and said “there are no winners or losers; it is a collective victory for all those involved.”

The PUJ had set a 48-hour deadline for Dunya managers to reinstate the staffers and threatened to hold a protest outside the channel’s offices Friday. However, that protest has now been called off.

Several senior journalists and other workers were sacked without being served proper notices.
