BalochistanVoices.com gets started in data journalism
BalochistanVoices.com has launched data journalism by producing a story on governance issues related to employee shortages. Editor Adnan Aamir plans to expand this initiative further.

QUETTA – BalochistanVoices.com has become the first media organization in Balochistan to have produced a data-driven story.

The story - Pakistan: Governance fails to improve partially due to vacancies in key organizations was published on December 1.

The website used data provided by the establishment division to establish a linkage between shortage of employees in federal government departments with Pakistan’s declining governance indicators.

Data journalism is about increased use of numerical data in production and distribution of information in the digital era. It reflects increased interaction between journalists and several other fields such as designers, computer scientists and statisticians.

BalochistanVoices.com Editor Adnan Aamir said he plans to have a separate section for data journalism.

KEY POINTS:

  • First media organization in Balochistan to use data journalism.
  • Story published on December 1 highlights governance failures.
  • Links employee shortages to declining governance indicators.
  • Plans for a dedicated data journalism section announced.
  • Increased collaboration between journalists and other fields.
