ISLAMABAD – The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists has decided to write letters to several news organizations urging them to ensure disbursement of staff salaries before Eid, and to stop layoffs.
Aamir Sajjad Syed (pictured), President of the union, chaired a meeting at the National Press Club on Friday to discuss these matters.
The meeting called on Firdaus Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, and Special Assistant on Media, Yousaf Baig Mirza, to link payments to media houses for government commercials with payments to employees.
The house also condemned an attack on Hum News reporter Farid Sabri and cameraperson Abdul Wahid reportedly by some influential people. The RIUJ demanded immediate arrest of the perpetrators.
