ISLAMABAD—Maleeha Lodhi, a former editor of The News, has termed the arrest of Jang-Geo Media Group owner Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman ‘disturbing’ and called for his immediate release.
In a tweet, she said that Shakil-ur-Rehman’s arrest was deeply disturbing when he was making himself available to answer allegations against him and not running away. “Justice demands that he is released asap. No justification to detain him when he is ready to answer all questions abt the alleged case.”

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested the media tycoon on Wednesday in a 34-year-old property transaction.
Some circles point out that his arrest came because of his media group’s criticism of NAB.
Ms Lodhi is also a former Pakistan ambassador to the United Nations.
