ISLAMABAD – For airing a “provocative comment on a statement by Prime Minister,” regulator PEMRA has served a show-cause notice on ARY News.
The objectionable comment went on air on March 23 in the program The Reporters. During the show, guest Shahid Latif termed a statement by Prime Minister blasphemous.
PEMRA said this was a dangerous trend and noted the program hosts did not intervene to stop the guest from making such comment. It said this was a violation of rules and regulations.
ARY has been given seven days to respond and explain why appropriate action should not be taken against them for airing “hate speech”.
The regulator said the actions against the channel may include a ban on the program, cancellation of license or a fine of Rs1 million.
