LAHORE – Rauf Sheikh, Editor Coordination at The News passed away Saturday in Lahore. He was 59.
The News reported that he suffered respiratory problems shortly after arriving for work. His condition worsened while he was being taken to Services Hospital.
Doctors tried their best to revive him but failed.
Sheikh began his career with the Pakistan Times in the 1980s. He then moved to The Nation before joining The News in 1991.

Imroze, an Urdu language newspaper founded by Mian Iftikharuddin, started publishing in 1948 from Lahore. After the military coup in 1958 it was taken over by the military government. It was shut down in early 1991.
In 1957 a private news agency Pakistan Press Association (PPA), which came to be known as Pakistan Press International (PPI), was set up.
