ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has asked PEMRA to initiate action against Geo News and Dunya News for wrong reporting, spreading sensationalism and confusing the public.
Iftikhar Durrani, head of PTI’s central media department dispatched the complaint seeking immediate action against the two channels. The complaint relates to reporting on what was PTI’s big day – September 30 – when it held a mammoth rally in Raiwind.
Durrani pointed out in the complaint the said channels reported a woman being manhandled during the rally. He termed this as baseless, and added that the lady linked to this had expressed ignorance about such an incident.
The official said the channels did not bother to contact PTI for confirmation before airing the news. This he said appeared to be an attempt to taint the reputation of Pakistan’s second biggest party and cause damage to its political activities.
PTI chief Imran Khan while addressing the Raiwind rally had alleged that two television channels were getting money from the government but stopped short of naming them.
