ISLAMABAD: Popular Geo News Television anchor Hamid Mir says some state institutions have been forcing him to leave Pakistan but he is trying to resist the pressure.
In an interview with BBC Urdu, he said, “I’m under pressure from some powerful quarters to leave Pakistan, I’m resisting the pressure but if the situation doesn't improve, I may think of leaving Pakistan.”
Mir survived an attack last year in Karachi and is still struggling to get justice. “The attack has changed my life not only physically and mentally but has also limited my professional journalistic scope of work,” he said.
He said Pakistani media is under self-censorship as it has lost its credibility. “The media was predicting resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and dissolution of assemblies during the sit-ins but nothing happened,” he said.
Mir said his media group is fighting for its survival and it’s difficult for them to raise voice against human rights abuses.
