ISLAMABAD: The Geo-Jang Group has dissociated itself from tweets and retweets on “sensitive unsubstantiated content” by individuals affiliated with the group. The group is also working on a social media policy for its staff.
In a statement, the group said that personal tweets of some of its workers were hurting its credibility and editorial policy.
“It has been brought to our attention that individuals affiliated with the Jang Group and Geo at times tweet or retweet materials that maybe considered offensive and beyond journalistic standards,” it said.
The statement says the group is itself victim of unregulated social media and supports strong anti-defamation social media laws to prevent rumormongering and dissemination of unsubstantiated content as news.
It said the group also accedes to right of journalists for having their own opinion on different issues but opinion must be balanced and not contrary to its particular editorial policy.
“The balancing act between the two rights is seriously being reviewed by the Group’s editors at this moment,” it said.
