ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has served notice on cable operators for shutting down and moving Geo Television to the last numbers.
The News, quoting a PEMRA spokesman it did not name, said the move by cable operators was illegal. The paper said the regulatory authority had also summoned officials of ARY, Express and Dunya Television channels for airing 'objectionable content' multiple times.
A large number of complaints from the public prompted the Council of Complaints to seek explanation from the managers at these channels.
The News said the government has decided to take action against three PEMRA members - Israr Abbasi, Mian Shams and Fareeha Iftikhar - all of whom have been served show cause notices.
Earlier this week, these officials announced suspension of licenses of three television channels belonging to Geo Network following a meeting which was later declared illegal by PEMRA.
