ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) and National Press Club Saturday demanded setting up of a special committee to investigate Friday's attack on senior journalist Raza Rumi.
During a protest they demanded of the Punjab government to announce immediate compensation to Rumi's driver who was killed in the attack and the injured guard.
RIUJ President Ali Raza Alvi said that despite an increase in attacks on journalists, the government remains unmoved.
Rumi came under attack near Raja Market in Lahore as he headed home after hosting his show.
Bilal Dar, the RIUJ Secretary General while addressing the protesters urged the Punjab government to move quickly and constitute an investigation committee which should have officials with impeccable record.
President of National Press Club, Shaharyar Khan said that those who think media can be silenced through their cowardly acts were badly mistaken.
