It has been said that safe headlines and titles are boring. Indeed they are for without a dash of creativity nothing clicks. The caption should be such that it compels people to take notice of your product.

As professionals, we would like to point out that a caption should not state the obvious – it has to be developed around what’s going on in a picture or poster.

You might imagine it’s easy, but it’s not.

Either one has a natural aptitude for good captions and headlines or has to be trained to develop the required skills to do so; one has to see beyond the obvious and look at the big picture, find a bit of witticism, a pun, a relevant reference or even be poetic to make good headlines and captions.

Often a book is bought for its title. Likewise, a good caption head or news story headline has to be attractive. An often quoted example is, “If a dog bites a man, it’s not news. But if a man bites a dog, it is.” Likewise, a good title or headline has to have the same logic.
