Every time a seminar or workshop is planned by an organization, one of the first concerns of the Media or PR department is to put together a ‘Media kit’ for journalists expected at that event. More often than not, the information contained in such kits is irrelevant or misguided.

What then is the correct set of documents for such a kit?

It is usually assumed that a media kit should contain a pen and a writing pad and little else. This is a lazy and ill informed approach. A media kit can be a very powerful tool if done correctly.

A media kit, done the right way, can provide journalists with all the information they need. It not only promotes the media capability of the organization but reflects on the attitude of the organization in question as well.
