For a country that has more women than men it is shocking that reports on women and women’s affairs are totally ignored. Only a small section of the English language print media covers this beat. Cases like that of Mukhtaran Mai gained prominence only because it was brought out into the open by the media. There are hundreds of similar cases that never get a mention.
To make matters worse, the Ministry of Women’s Development is completely male dominated. It is time that women and women journalists step out and let the world know what they are capable of achieving by highlighting women’s issues.
