The quality of crime reporting in Pakistan is in dire need of improvement. Although there is enormous scope for good reports, crime often gets second hand treatment from the editors and this reflects poorly on the newspapers and TV channels. This form of reporting requires exceptional investigative skills. However, these are barely evident in the reports that we see in the national media. Mostly, crime reporters are fed information by the police. There is no depth to the reports we see in the newspapers. The language and grammar is unacceptable.
With the crime graph continuing to climb, there is a dire need for the standard of crime reporting to correspond accordingly and more specialization is needed. JP can provide the impetus and direction to any crime reporter to rise above the current mediocrity and become a shining star.
