ISLAMABAD—Pakistan's well-known anchorperson and senior journalist, Arshad Sharif, was shot and killed in Kenya. Kenyan local police have initiated an investigation.
Sharif's wife, Javeria Siddique confirmed his death in a tweet: "I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist @arsched today, as per police he was shot in Kenya."
Javeria requested the public and media not speculate or spread rumors regarding Sharif's death.
Asim Iftikhar, a spokesperson for the Foreign Office, stated that Pakistan's High Commission in Kenya was gathering information from the authorities. So far, no further details have been revealed regarding Sharif's murder.
Sharif, 49, worked for several media institutions over the years. He was associated with ARY News for a long time, where he hosted the program 'Power Play.'
He received the Pride of Performance Award on March 23, 2019, for his services to journalism.
Salman Iqbal, CEO of ARY News, has expressed deep grief and sorrow over Sharif's death. "I still can't believe it. I am speechless. May Allah SWT grant him highest place in Jannah. Aameen"
Sharif left the country after the arrest of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill. Later, ARY declared in a statement that "Arshad Sharif has no association with the organization anymore."
Reports say that he had joined BOL News.
