ISLAMABAD—Police in Rawalpindi have lodged an FIR against journalist Waqar Satti for blasphemy after he posted a video against PTI Chairman Imran Khan.
Satti, a former president of the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists, came under severe criticism on social media for his video.
Many users and PTI supporters called for his arrest. He later deleted the controversial video.
The FIR says that Satti, who works for Geo News, included clips from various Imran Khan speeches, which the PTI head reportedly did not say.
President of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists, Afzal Butt, and Secretary-General Arshad Ansari condemned the registration of the FIR and called for its withdrawal.
The union held a protest in Islamabad Sunday to show solidarity with their colleague. The leaders warned the authorities not to target journalists.
