South Asian Journalism Fellowship

South Asian print journalists are encouraged to apply for an enterprise reporting fellowship. Fellows will work full-time on a single assignment for five weeks or on a freelance basis for several months. The deadline to apply is September 30.

Fellows will have the opportunity to publish their articles in The Caravan, a narrative journalism magazine published by Delhi Press. The fellowship, also sponsored by Panos South Asia, will include an award of up to INR80,000 (about US$1,700).

Only citizens from Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh are eligible to apply. Journalists must have five years of relevant experience, and work in English.

John S. Knight Fellowships (US)

Journalism Fellowship at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore)

Journalists from Asia are invited to apply for a fellowship at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. The fellowship runs from February 7 to April 29. The program is designed to give fifteen journalists the opportunity to work

with other professionals in Singapore’s public sector, business community and civil society. Fellows will be provided accommodation, airfare and a monthly stipend.

Applicants should have at least five years of working experience, and be proficient in English. Print, radio, television, online and freelance journalists are welcome to apply.

Digital Media Training Fellowship (Ohio, US)

Journalists from around the world who have at least five years professional experience are eligible toapply for the 2011 Kiplinger Fellowship in digital media.

The week-long fellowship, March 9-16 at Ohio State University, will teach journalists how to better usesocial media in their jobs. For example, participants will learn about sourcing, online searches, tellingmultimedia stories, and search engine optimization.

The fellowship includes the cost of the workshop, plus a travel and lodging stipend.

Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships

Print and online journalists from developing countries and countries with emerging markets can apply for the 2010 Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships, an annual program that brings journalists to American newsrooms. The fellowship is aimed at providing fellows with experiencein reporting, writing and editing that will enhance future professional performance; transfering knowledge gained during the program to colleagues at home; and fostering ties between journalists in the U.S. and other countries.

The fellowship covers all costs of program-related international and domestic travel, health insurance and provides a monthly stipend to cover basic living expenses.

Applicants must have at least three years' professional experience in online and print journalism, current full-time employment as a journalist, be between 25 and 35 and have a good level of spoken and written English.

The Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships (AFPF) is an American non-profit, non-governmental organization.

Lee F. Rogers International Fellowship in Radiology Journalism

The ARRS offers one-month annual fellowships in radiology journalism. Radiologists practicing abroad are eligible for the Rogers Fellowship. Rogers Fellowships are announced in July of every other year.

The successful candidate will be awarded a maximum of $12,000 to cover travel and other costs of the fellowship. The funding will be awarded at the end of the fellowship after the fellow has turned in expense reports and receipts.

Applicants should send a curriculum vitae and a letter describing the candidate's goals during the fellowship. Applications for the Rogers Fellowship should be sent electronically to lmishler@acr-arrs.org. Applications for the 2012 fellowship are due in June of 2011.

Columbia University Journalism School Fellowships

World Press Institute Fellowship

The WPI fellowship is offered to 10 journalists from countries around the world. It provides immersion into the governance, politics, business, media, journalistic ethics and culture of the United States for experienced international journalists, through a demanding schedule of study, travel and interviews throughout the country.

For 2010, the eight-week program will begin August 16 and end October 8. The 2010 fellows will spend a month in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, and then four weeks traveling to four or five U.S. cities for briefings, interviews and visits. They will return to Minnesota for the final week of the program.

Ochberg Fellowship for mid-career journalists

Applications are due for the Dart Center Ochberg Fellowships for mid-career journalists who cover trauma.

Each year, the Dart Center provides expense-paid fellowships to mid-career journalists who want to apply knowledge of emotional trauma to improving the coverage of violent events.

Fellowships are open to print, broadcast and online reporters, photographers, editors and producers with at least five years of journalism experience. Fellowships are currently limited to journalists from the Americas, Europe and the Australasia.

Fellowship for healthcare journalists

The Association of Health Care Journalists has announced a new fellowship program to help journalists understand and report on the performance of local health care systems and the U.S. health system as a whole. The AHCJ Media Fellowships on Health Performance, supported by The Commonwealth Fund, provides for training as well as field reporting assistance.

The program for mid-career journalists is intended to give print, broadcast and online reporters an opportunity to learn about examples of high-performing health care systems, to focus on innovations in care delivery, and to explore a system or its significant parts to determine what makes that system effective or ineffective. Fellows will be able to examine providers of care, insurers, regulators and policymakers.

The Commonwealth Fund grant will cover the costs of fellows attending two customized seminars in New York, the annual conference of AHCJ, a regional health journalism workshop and up to $6,000 in individual field reporting and research support. Jefferson Fellowships in Journalism 2010 (US)

The Jefferson Fellowships program was launched in 1967 to enhance public understanding through the news media of cultures, issues and trends in the Asia Pacific region, broadly defined as Asia, the Pacific Islands and the United States. The Fellowships provide U.S. and Asia Pacific journalists with an opportunity to broaden their understanding of Asia Pacific issues and build a professional network through one week of dialogue with professional colleagues and experts at the East-West Center, followed by a two-week study tour to cities in Asia or the U.S.

The Fall 2010 Jefferson Fellowships program will look specifically at two of the largest users of energy, the U.S. and China, and their efforts in addressing energy security.

The program will take special care to look at the challenges and opportunities involved in improving energy efficiency and in developing renewable technologies. In addition, the Fall 2010 program will examine the two countries’ efforts to facilitate joint research and development. Finally, the program will examine how each country seeks to promote public and private investment in the supplies of today’s fossil fuel sources as well as the clean technologies that will transform the energy system for the future.

Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships for mid-career developing world journalists

The Alfred Friendly Press Fellowships (AFPF), an American non-profit, non-governmental organization, is a cultural and professional exchange program for journalists. Through AFPF, journalists and their readers gain a broader view of the world and journalism thereby creating mutual understanding and peaceful relations between Americans and people of other nations. Fellows return home with new journalistic skills and knowledge, and a desire to advance a free, responsible press in their own countries–without which democracy does not exist.

The program, which runs from mid-March to early September, is offered annually to print and online journalists between the ages of 25 and 35.
