KARACHI – Electronic media regulator, PEMRA’s Council of Complaints, has recommended penalties of Rs500000 each on Abb Takk and Samaa Television channels for airing baseless and defamatory content.
A press release said both channels failed to defend themselves before the council.
The decision came during the 60th meeting of the council in Karachi.
Sohail Anwar Khan Siyal, Minister for Home, Agriculture, and Mines, Sindh had complained.
The council also recommended another fine of Rs300,000 on Samaa for misreporting and airing false, defamatory, and derogatory remarks. JS Bank had filed the complaint about the appointment of the Chairman of JS Bank, Ali Jehangir Siddiqui as Ambassador of Pakistan in the US.
