LAHORE: The University of Punjab has approved inclusion of population and development as a core course in its Mass Communication program.
The Express Tribune reported that this was announced by Population Council Deputy Director Seemin Ashfaq at a two-day orientation session on ‘Population and Development’ for senior faculty members of Mass Communication Departments of 11 leading universities of the country. The workshop was arranged under the United Nations Population Fund project “Sochain, Badlain, Amal Karain”.
Renowned journalist Muhammad Ziauddin chaired the concluding session and emphasized on quality education to bring real change in the country.
The paper reported that participants were of the view that introduction of such courses would build capacity of future media professionals and help them in developing a better understanding about population issues.
