ISLAMABAD – Electronic media watchdog PEMRA Saturday suspended Din News’ license for 30 days and that of Neo TV for seven days after both hurled allegations against a Supreme Court judge.
Both channels were also fined Rs1 million each while Sach TV was slapped with a similar fine for airing a telephone call during which the caller used indecent words against the judiciary.
All three erring channels were served show cause notices on November 19 and asked to respond by November 26 and also explain their positions at the PEMRA offices.
The three channels submitted their written responses but could not defend themselves. Following the hearing PEMRA announced its decision.
The channels have been directed to deposit the fines within 15 days and also asked to air apologies. The decision comes into effect on December 1 at 12pm.
