ISLAMABAD – Electronic media watchdog PEMRA has served a show-cause notice on Neo TV after a guest on one of its shows leveled serious allegations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
The channel aired the content in its program ‘Live with Nasrullah Malik’ on April 27.
Guest Zaid Hamid alleged that Nawaz Sharif was an agent of an enemy country’s intelligence agency. He also said the prime minister was plotting to have PTI leader Imran Khan killed.
PEMRA said such content going on air was a violation of National Action Plan and the Code of Conduct for electronic media.
The channel has until May 6 to explain why the program not be banned or a fine of Rs1 million not imposed, or further, its license not suspended or canceled.
