ISLAMABAD – Over a dozen television channels face fines of Rs500,000 each for airing what turned out to be a false news about Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief Imran Khan marrying a third time.
The Islamabad Council of Complaints of PEMRA recommended the fines in a meeting held here. Several television channels had a field day on July 12, repeatedly reporting that Khan had married again. His first two marriages with Jemima Khan and Reham Khan both ended in divorce.
Among the channels to be penalized are: Dunya, Geo, Neo, Royal, Khyber News, Channel 24, 92 News, NewsOne, Sach, Roze News, Channel 5, and Geo Tez.
The Council has directed all these channels to also air apologies.
