ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court Monday reinstated Chaudhry Rashid as chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
Earlier, President Mamnoon Hussain had dismissed Rashid as chairman PEMRA in April 2014 due to the alleged tussle between Rashid and the ruling party.
The PML-N government terminated Rashid’s contract in December 2013, declaring the appointment ab-initio (illegal from the very beginning) and appointed Tehsin Ali Khan, an executive member of the authority, as its acting chairman.
Rashid moved court against his termination and had got a verdict in his favor in the same month that year but couldn’t resume his duties as the government refused to withdraw the notification on appointment of Khan as acting PEMRA chief.
Rashid is former information and broadcasting secretary. He was appointed as chairman of the authority for four years by the Pakistan Peoples Party-led government on Jan 26, 2013.
