ISLAMABAD : Dr Tahir Masood, Chairman of Mass Communication Department at Karachi University , has resigned from his position over differences with other faculty members on modification of the curriculum.
Dr Mahmood Ghaznavi has been appointed the department's acting chairman.
A faculty member told JournalismPakistan.com that Masood had been pressing the faculty members to modify curriculum of the department but almost all of the faculty members opposed him.
“Dr Tahir Masood apparently felt disheartened by the attitude of the faculty and decided to resign. The university has unfortunately lost a professional and hardworking professor,” he said.
The course being taught at the mass communications department is almost 18 years old and it is putting future of hundreds of students each year at risk, he said.
“Dr Tahir in fact modified the syllabus as per today’s requirements and also sent it to some senior journalists and professionals in Karachi for their feedback,” he said.
The faculty members opposed implementation of the new curriculum in board of studies for being too ambitious, he said.
“Dr Tahir also lodged a complaint with the university vice chancellor and requested his intervention to settle the issue but to no avail,” he said.
